Working for Dr. Federico Casassa, Assistant Professor of Enology, I sampled research and commercial wines during 14 months, to have them tested for chemical differences. At the end of my time, I performed a triangle test for determining human detectable differences in the wine. This research focused on characteristics of French oak barrels, and the impact the stave-bending method had on the finished wine.

This lab period focused on the most common wine laboratory tests, such as Titratable Acidity, Free/Bound/Total SO2, Glucose/Fructose, Malic Acid, Alcohol, and others. This required use of cash still, titration, spectrophotometry, enzymatic kits, ebulliometer, and alcolyzer, as well as scales, stir bars, bunsen burners, heat plates, micropipetters, and other types of standard lab equipment.
