I am a researcher with expertise in understanding the mechanisms of polysaccharide utilization and the impact of gut bacteria on host gene regulation, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease. During my PhD at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, I used various techniques to study how gut commensal bacteria metabolize dietary fiber. In my previous postdoc position at the University of Michigan, I investigated the disease-causing mechanisms of colitis in a genetically susceptible mouse model. My research showed that lack of dietary fiber promotes increased activity of mucin-degrading bacteria, which leads to colitis. I am currently a postdoc at the University of Campinas, where I am studying how inflammatory response affects intestinal epithelial cells' epigenetic responses and gene expression. I am passionate about the interface of microbiome-host interactions and am seeking industry opportunities to advance our understanding of the gut microbiome and develop new treatments for inflammatory bowel disease.
