Head Of Knowledge Management
Experiences, interactions, personal beliefs, company values, ideas, innovation, the next thing. Training is just the Pillars of Hercules of Knowledge. As a team of four people, we are in charge of the following activities:ToolsGroup Academy ManagementWe supervise the many aspects of the Toolsgroup Academy LMS, design its structure and pages and tailor programs for different users and roles.ToolsGroup Academy Courses and Learning PlansWe create content, courses and learning plans for TG’s various products for internal people, partners and customers. On top of that, we publish company updates, onboarding programs and, more in general, useful knowledge material.Company Portals and SitesWe create, design and keep up to date teams’ public/private sites, as well as the various Company Portals (Global Company Portal, lT Portal, Product Portal). The general infrastructure is based on MS Teams and Sharepoint, with private channels for internal department use, shared channels for collaboration with other departments and public channels to share content with the entire company. Channels have associated Sharepoint site for better content presentation and mapped as a Company Intranet.Portals are generally for internal company use; in some of them we publish content for partners.Product Knowledge CommunitiesIn order to facilitate communications between product experts and consultants (internal and partners), we have created and supervise Product Knowledge Communities based on Viva Engage.Product DocumentationWe take care of product documentation for internal people (software in-depth documentation and specifications) and customers (user guides, online help, release notes). For internal documentation we use Notion as content management tool.Beyond my main role, I have recently been again involved in customer activities as Solution Architect: a jump in the past that keeps me young and helps me to keep a direct connection with customer needs and expectations.
Knowledge Manager
I have now become a full time Knowledge Manager and passed all the software delivery activities to a dedicated sales & operations team.I have recently conducted the selection and implementation of Learning Management System - the ToolsGroup Academy - now online for internal company use; the ambitious task is now, beyond the evolution of the product training, the inclusion of non-product related courses (project methodology and project management for example) with the involvement of subject matter experts. On top of that, the medium/long term objective is to open the Academy to the outside world (partners and end customers).I have also been working to give to the internal resource portal a better look & feel and organization, with enriched content opened also to company procedure documentation, in preparation of a possible future switch to a company intranet. The next challenge is to study how knowledge, arguably our most valuable company asset, can be collected and shared by people. In addition to my official tasks, I have the pleasure to put my experience at the service of the UI / UX team, currently busy with the design and implementation of the web interface of our next generation products.
Knowledge / License & Sw Delivery Manager
With the introduction of a formal Product Management function, I left tasks strictly connected to the product evolution and development pipeline, focusing on knowledge and education topics, while still maintaining responsibility for the software distribution. I was splitting my time between building contents and delivering training education sessions and software delivery activities; these were including the management of the product configurations and license tokens archive and the preparation of technical documentation for new releases and upgrades, such as release notes and what's new announcements. As far as knowledge management activities were concerned, I started looking at new tools to facilitate the distribution and sharing of material to consultants and eventually developed, among other things, a portal for internal use which could be the documentation reference place for technical people and an archive of knowledge articles on a variety of topics. I enjoyed as usual my participation as speaker to company User Forums and Events, mainly to illustrate aspects and opportunities associated to new software releases.
Product Manager
ToolsGroup was growing and there was the need for a more formal setup for some company functions which were not explicitly existing until then. My business card was saying Product Manager, but in practical terms, while still be involved in consultancy activities, I was pioneering new procedures and methods for software documentation, testing and delivery, development pipeline management, internal and customer support, training documentation. That kept me busy for a few years - while in the meantime becoming a father of two - as the numbers did not justify yet the creation of dedicated teams for the above activities, but gave me the opportunity to develop a clear view of the global picture.
Senior Consultant
At that time, ToolsGroup was going to open a new subsidiary in the UK and some local technical competence was needed for product implementation and customer support. The management offered me to be the reference person for that and I accepted the challenge. It turned out to be the right decision. While working as senior consultant for the local customer base, I merged with a different culture, language and way of working and that changed my perspectives and views, and nothing was ever the same again.
Consultant
This career step was the natural evolution of the previous one. With now the proper expertise to deal with most of the customer issues autonomously, I was both working on new projects and doing post-sales support for existing customers. It was enriching to deal with challenges coming from customers belonging to variegated business sectors, from spares parts for sports cars to fresh milk, from luxury brand sunglasses to pharmaceutical drugs and white goods.
Project Engineer
Joining ToolsGroup was a bit like turning the steering wheel. My Master's degree thesis was about developing an industrial assembly plant software simulation tool, and that was pointing me towards a "classic" career in the manufacturing world, but for some reason I turned down other offers to join a small unknown firm of visionary people, talking about things mostly unknown to me at that time, such as supply chain, stock and customer service levels. I started off as the little brother of the team, supporting senior people in the implementation of our supply chain planning solutions for major automotive and manufacturing companies.
Ensign (Of-1) - Corps Of Naval Engineering
I had a great time in the Navy. It has been an amazing experience from both a professional and a human point of view. A ship is like a small town, with technical and social dynamics, everyone is in charge to make the ecosystem working smoothly. It is also an exciting environment for a mechanical engineer as you can touch with your hands things you previously saw only on books. During my service as a junior officer, I was in charge for the management, organization and documentation of flood and fire drills and the management of the technical documentation archive for on board equipment, devices and appliances.
