Profile bio

About Gabrielle Augustine

Gabrielle Augustine has been a member of the curatorial team at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum since 2016. A few highlights in that time include: the annual update of the World Series Champions in Autumn Glory, several New Inductee cases, and the small exhibit that celebrates Field of Dreams. She is also the lead curator for Your Team Today, the locker room space which focuses on modern players and events. Partway through her master’s in archaeology, she discovered her love of museum work. She worked with several local historical societies and was the collections manager at the International Museum of Art & Science in McAllen, Texas, before moving to upstate New York. Gabrielle is a lifelong baseball player (and the only woman in her local adult wooden bat league), so joining the team at the NBHFM serendipitously united her passions for museums and the sport. Beyond work, you can find Gabrielle knitting, baking, or playing baseball. Although she is no stranger to being the only woman on the ballfield, she relishes when she can play in women’s baseball tournaments, especially if she and her sister are on the same team.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Research, Guided Tours, Baseball, and 16 others.

Curator

Current

Cooperstown, Ny

While assisting with brainstorming concept exhibits through implementation, I am also responsible for updating and revising the current exhibits as needed. This ranges from preparing and adding information to the variety of digital interactives throughout the museum to writing labels for newly accessioned objects that need to be placed in the current baseball events cases. As a member of the Curatorial team, I compile research related to artifacts and archival material in the collection while also working as Lead Curator on specifically assigned projects. Other duties include giving behind-the-scenes tours to VIPs and potential donors as well as public presentations on various aspects of the Hall of Fame and baseball history. Began working at the museum as Assistant Curator. Promoted to Curator October 2019.

Jul 2016 - Present

Collections Manager

Mcallen, Texas Area

As their first Collections Manager in seven years, I initiated an inventory and rehousing project for the entire 9,000 object collection (which consists of 2D and 3D art, folk art, geology and fossil specimens, and textiles). To assist with the collections, I created an collections internship program where I was responsible for training and supervising interns and volunteers. As part of my personal goal of allowing the public to glimpse and learn about objects in our collections that were not exhibited often, I created a new section for the museum's website where we feature an “Object of the Month.” Other duties included curating several small exhibits that helped achieve my goal of highlighting artifacts from our collection throughout the museum. These topical cases have featured both art objects and science specimens and included background research and creative display of informative content capable of catching visitors’ attention.

Jun 2015 - Jul 2016

Assistant Collections Manager

Erie County Historical Society

Erie, Pennsylvania Area

Contract position. In preparation for a major move and renovation that the ECHS will complete in 2015, my team and I successfully implemented a complete inventory procedure for over 15,000 objects which pertain to the history of Erie. I inventoried, photographed, and packed the Historical Society’s textile collection, where a large percentage were military uniforms, historic dresses, and flags; a variety of historic artifacts such as late-1800’s muskets and swords; and framed art and photographs. While supervising a team of volunteers and collections staff, other tasks included tracking down and researching collections objects, writing condition reports for objects and storage rooms, and creating daily packing strategies while working within budget and time constraints.

May 2014 - Dec 2014

Graduate Assistant

Mercyhurst Center For Archival Projects

Erie, Pa

As a graduate assistant at Mercyhurst University, I worked with 1100 linear feet of archival documents and 3000 artifacts that comprised the newly formed Thomas J. and Michele Ridge Collection. I created a database and completed cataloging and inventory for the objects which included artwork, sculpture, photographs, and audio-visual materials while evaluating items for their relevance to the scope and mission of the collection and made recommendations regarding retention. As a part of the installation team for collection’s dedication exhibition in October 2013, I was also solely responsible for researching and curating the materials on the Governor’s Inaugurations.

Aug 2012 - May 2014

Student Ambassador

Allentown, Pa

Gave campus tours to prospective student families, directed phone calls, prepared mailings to students and high schools.

Aug 2011 - May 2012

Social Science Department Office Assistant
