Profile bio

About Gabrielle Westbrook, M.Ed.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee and an alumna of Vanderbilt University and George Mason University respectively, I have made education my life's calling. Having served in the cradle of education reform, Washington, D.C., as well as America's leading competitor for educational excellence, Beijing, China, my work has grounded itself domestically and abroad in three main goals: mentorship for novice teachers, creating strong and supportive school cultures, and student efficacy through developing the whole-child. Inspired by my former professor, Dr. Donna Ford, an expert in urban education at Vanderbilt University, and my mother, a former educator in Shelby County Public Schools, I have the ammunition to be a deadly force against illiteracy and ignorance. Operating under the notion that all children can learn, I take my mission seriously and challenge students to rise to the occasion. I believe that exposure to the world around us is unequivocally the way to broaden horizons and stop limited thinking. Through exposure, building relationships, and helping students develop self-efficacy, students become intrinsically motivated to learn and develop critical thinking skills that will take them far in life. Having recently relocated back to the United States after spending several years teaching and leading an international school in China, I am compelled to reground myself in the American educational landscape and lend my experiences and expertise to those in need during these unprecedented times. I have lead teams during the COVID-19 global pandemic across multiple time zones, languages, cultures, and geographic locations as a teacher and administrator. Additionally, I bring my knowledge of program management and ability to coach and develop teachers and staff to new career opportunities.Though I am no longer in the classroom, I still hold strongly to my teaching philosophy that, “Children don’t care what you know until they know that you care.” As my professional journey expands my sphere of influence, I would like to broaden this adage to, "People don't care what you know until they know that you care."
