Facility Supervisor
As a Facility Supervisor, I oversaw a 244,000 square foot exercise facility at Boston College. This fitness center regularly meets its 400 person capacity and is very well populated. Most importantly, my role is to make sure that all of our members are safe during their workouts, and serve as a first responder in any crisis scenario. I ensured accountability and timeliness amongst our student staff. At any given time there are between 20 and 30 student staff working in the facility. I frequently handled member concerns related to a variety of scheduling and managerial-related issues, as well as perform maintenance on the building that is within my capability. I served as President of the Student Staff Advisory board, a panel made up of students that relay recommendations and concerns from student staff to our professional staff. Our group also planned a number of social events to increase the camaraderie of the employees and improve our work atmosphere.
Army Rotc Cadet
Undergraduate Research Fellow And Teaching Assistant
I worked with Professor Sajdi of BC's History Department to research scholarship related to the Ottoman sailor and cartographer Piri Reis' "Kitab-ı Bahriye (The Book of Navigation)," a manuscript of which is preserved at the Walters Art Museum. I compiled a bibliography of primary and secondary sources used in a Boston College History Core course "Podcasting the Ottomans." I was the Teaching Assistant for this class, helping students frame and research their penultimate project, a 10 minute podcast on a topic associated with Reis' work. I also took this class for credit, and contributed a short introduction to the student podcasts. The podcast can be found on both Soundcloud and Apple Podcasts.
Research Assistant
During my time on Professor Peter Krause's Political Violence Project team, I researched contemporary and historical conflicts, analyzing their methodology, motivation, and effectiveness to inform predictions surrounding future geopolitical hostility. I contributed to numerous memos, concerning current or forecasted conflicts in MENA, written by Professor Krause that were requested at the behest of the federal government. With a small team, I collected data surrounding the dissolution of Yugoslavia and a number of small Serbian rebel groups to contribute to a dataset entitled "Insurgent Spoils." I contributed research to a book Professor Krause is working on, entitled "Passionate Moderate," which aims to give insight into how an individual may be an active participant in the American political system while still holding moderate opinions. I researched a number of historical "passionate moderates," and helped to frame future chapters of the book.
Project Intern
I worked for the U.S. Embassy in Singapore, serving as a resource in increasing the accuracy of a machine learning model. This machine learning algorithm will be made to ingest large datasets of research articles, ultimately making prediction models that will be used at the bleeding edge of application deployment in the State Department.
Front End Supervisor
Ggl Intern
As a GGL intern at Radius Bank, I had the opportunity to be a small part of the economic relief effort by the United States government to alleviate the financial burden that the COVID-19 pandemic wrought. In this role, I vetted the applications of small businesses for Payment Protection Program (PPP) loans utilizing government databases, such as the System for Award Management (SAM) and Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Credit Alert System (CAIVRS). In sum, I assisted in the vetting, processing, and distribution of over $900 million in Payment Protection Program loans to positively impact over 60,000 jobs. This experience gave me much insight into the complexities of these programs and how the federal government operates. I was able to learn about the distribution of services from the government directly to citizens, and gained an appreciation for bureaucracy, and the amount of time certain projects may take despite public upheaval. I spoke with individuals who were desperate to get PPP loans for their company, but were forced to wait because of the tumultuous vetting process, bettering my customer service skills. This position gave me in-depth practice utilizing Excel, Outlook, and Word.
