The Penistone Business Group exists to help business connect and develop together.The Group aims to support established family and independent businesses, entrepreneurs, budding entrepreneurs, young enterprise and their representatives by connecting with the wider business and local community.I first formed this group in 2002. Back then it was a product of Cherry Training Ltd:’ Good Practice in Small Business’. ‘Good Business’ has evolved from facilitated learning around the IiP standard to an action learning set/peer network for 12 owners of small businesses.We have raised funds from sponsorship and donations to create a seed fund for our local young enterprise challenge. It enabled us to hold an award ceremony and we saw 70 young people enter the challenge when the previous year saw zero.

A series of workshops to support the success of a new venture from the idea to running it successfully. Facilitated thinking, practical advice and shared experience.As the service was brought to a close the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) commissioned ‘mystery shoppers’ to attend workshops and score delivery/facilitation performance across the programmes. Overall I was rated the highest scoring facilitator.

Training Consultancy and Professional Training: personal effectiveness, organisational development, leadership & management development.I designed & delivered 22 workshop titles on a broad range of business challenges associated with high growth & attracted fee paying clients at a time when funding for training/executive learning in our region was hard to access.In addition, and as a specialist Investors in People (IiP) Advisor working alongside Talent Services Ltd we recruited more than 25 Barnsley independent businesses to participate in a successful business improvement programme. We delivered the Small Firms Initiative to help them improve business efficiency and prepare for IiP assessment. A number of delegate have retained and maintain their IiP status.Working alongside Talent Services Ltd we won over stiff competition to become preferred suppliers of the Leadership & Management programme for Business Link. We delivered 22 development/growth plans to improve business owner efficiency. I organised for one business owner to learn to speak Mandarin to better manage their export dealings with China.
