I was born in Northern Ireland. My pronouns are she /her and I have spent over half of my life living and working in the beautiful MENA region of the world. I feel both comfortable and stimulated in multicultural and multilingual contexts, loving the challenges involved in engaging hands-on with the world’s diversity. I consider my self to be a lover of learning, a lover of life and a people person. My first career-passion was in special needs education. Whilst living in Morocco, I had the privilege to teach in the American school of Marrakesh and to start a small special-needs school for secondary age children in partnership with Marrakesh’s ministry of education and ministry of health. 20 years later, cancer coincided with a family trauma forcing me to leave Morocco and to begin a journey that has led me to my present career and probably my life’s passion. I retrained whilst living in France to be an art therapist and in 2017 I began not only my work in the mental health field but also in a humanitarian context. Human rights and social justice have been foundational guiding principles in my life and I consider it an honour to serve the underserved. In the Kurdish region of Iraq, I had the privilege of working alongside and serving the Syrian refugee community and Iraqi displaced community in my roles as Psychosocial Consultant and Art Therapist with the INGO, STEP, Iraq. Back in the UK, I continue to engage locally in the fight against injustice and as a mental health professional seek to promote healing and wellbeing.
