Located in Pacific Grove, California, Parents’ Place is an award-winning parent education program for parents and caregivers of children ages 0-3. The mission of Parents’ Place is to:• provide parents with information needed to nurture their young children in a positive, healthy, and loving environment;• offer an atmosphere of support and comfort, which encourages the building of a community of parent-to-parent relationships;• honor and respect family in all of its forms; and• deliver a sound educational curriculum that increases parents’ confidence and allows for diversity in learning modes.At Parents’ Place, parents attend weekly age-related classes with their child to gain parenting skills and become part of a parenting community. Highly qualified teachers share and model relevant, research-based curriculum in age-related core classes, focusing on building positive relationships and growing healthy, confident children. Classes for children are held daily and parents attend weekly classes with their children up to the age of three. The classes are carefully designed for the age of the child, with a curriculum specific to the needs of the adult caregiver. For 25 years, Parents’ Place has provided critical support to thousands of Monterey County families from all socioeconomic backgrounds. The program is open to any parent or caregiver and has an enrollment of approximately 270 families every quarter. The program serves all families, including military families, families with disabled parents or children, and single parent families. Gail Root founded the program and led its growth to a program that served upwards of 600 families who attended over 50 classes every week taught by 23 highly qualified teachers.
