About Gareth Morton

I am an award-winning communications strategist and acknowledged expert in behaviour change turned expert in recycling flexible plastic packaging (FPP) with with over 30 years experience across waste, recycling and resource efficiency.I've spent the last three years at Ecosurety trying to help manufacturers, brands, the recycling industry and UK government answer the vexed question of how to collect and recycle FPP collected at scale from UK households. The job's not done yet! Prior to this I was a behaviour change specialist and my practical experience covers the full range of communications and engagement disciplines. For eleven years I was a company director at SWAP and Resource Futures and I took both companies through major change programmes. Some of my major projects include:- Playing a central role in three national UK recycling and waste management campaigns: Rethink Rubbish (2002 – 2004), Recycle Now (2004 - 2008), Recycle for Scotland (2011 – 2012);- Managing communications and engagement projects on four national business resource efficiency programmes: Envirowise (Defra); Welsh Public Sector Waste Minimisation Campaign (Envirowise Wales/Welsh Assembly Government); WRAP’s Business Resource Efficiency programme; and Resource Efficient Scotland (Zero Waste Scotland).

Discovery Manager

Current

England, United Kingdom

Being Discovery Manager at Ecosurety is a bit like being the Second Officer on the starship Enterprise! It's the company's ideas hub and I manage a range projects that are part of Ecosurety's mission (as a B Corp) to go beyond mere compliance and deliver real, positive impact. These range widely from new recycling technologies to pioneering new collaborative voluntary extended producer responsibility projects like the Flexible Plastics Fund. I ran Ecosurety's £1M Exploration Fund as well as a smattering of 'traditional' consultancy type projects playing to my core behaviour change skills. All in all, very varied and very, very exciting!
