Failure AnalysisI work closely with the FA and QA engineering teams to identify, investigate and resolve customer issues for Semtech's signal integrity and broadcast video product lines. Customer failures are sent directly to our team for verification, electrical fault isolation and physical analysis to identify the root cause. Any issues identified along the way are resolved with assistance from the product engineering, design, test, marketing, operations, sales and management teams. I guide these investigations both internally and externally with the customer. (Documentation of these investigations include: Failure Analysis reports, 8D reports, Corrective Action Requests, Non-Conforming Material Review, Engineering Change Orders, Supply Corrective Action Requests and customer communication.)Quality Improvement ProjectsTo further improve our skill set, capabilities and effectiveness, our team continuously pursues quality improvement projects. These can include lab, FA analysis techniques, electrical test program, statistical quality techniques or process related improvements.Non-Conforming Material ReviewI personally manage the review and disposition of all non-conforming material identified by our engineering teams, failure analysis investigations or manufacturing process limits for our signal integrity and broadcast video product lines.

After completing 3 years of my undergrad at McMaster University, I began a 16 month Co-op term at Semtech. I joined a talented team of engineers responsible for maintaining the quality production and customer support of Semtech's products. My primary role was to validate the failure of customer returns by testing the functionality of the parts in conditions similar to the customer's application. In order to manage this testing, I had to be familiar with dozens of different Semtech products and the equipment required for simulating the customer’s application. My responsibilities also included learning and supporting failure analysis, tracking the team's weekly performance, working with the website development team and ensuring that the lab was able to test any new Semtech parts. There were a variety of smaller tasks involved in my job, so I had to handle these responsibility in a prioritised and efficient manner. I gained a lot of technical knowledge during my time at Semtech, but I saw the most improvement in my soft skills. Teamwork, oral and written communication, time management, taking responsibility, understanding corporate structure and presentation skills.

During my time off of school, I would work as a labourer for John's Construction. While working for this company, I learned to build decks, fences, sheds and houses. This work experience helped me to develop my problem solving, communication, time management and efficiency abilities. It was a great place to learn the importance of working hard while producing quality products.
