The Bradford Exchange is the leading direct marketer of collectables in the UK, specialising in a wide variety of exclusive collectable products and limited editions, including music boxes, jewellery and collectable coins. Their range spans a number of revered UK brands, like Disney, Flying Scotsman, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. After heading up the Copywriting Department for 2½ years I was promoted to the position of UK Creative Manager and assumed responsibility for all creative areas of the UK operation, which spans various marketing channels from print to web. In addition to my ongoing role as Senior Copywriter (detailed later), my day-to-day responsibilities included:• Managing the output and deadlines of the creative department.• Objectively driving the level of creativity by doing competitor research and analysing marketing test results.• Working closely with the Product Developers and New Client Acquisition to co-ordinate the press advertising schedule. • Working with the Senior Designer to conceptualise new promotional formats for house-file mailings. (Our efforts achieved response rates of up to 6% – the average is normally 1.5%.)• Submitting creative ideas to improve new client conversion rates. (I designed, wrote and implemented a new Reservation Letter format which markedly increased response.)• Presenting finished work to the Managing Director and Head of Marketing.• Representing the creative department at the annual meeting with the company’s global CEOs – presenting work, new concepts/strategies and analysing successes/failures.• Recruitment for all positions within the creative team.
