I devised and rolled out campaigns to end animal cruelty, involving communications, political, supporter and celebrity engagement on an international level. I implemented and reviewed international campaigns, involving lobbying and PR, on issues from attempting to prohibit wild animals performing in circuses, to the improvement of lab primate welfare. During this period, we achieved the prohibition of performing wild animals in circuses in UK and Latin American jurisdictions. Worked with varied parliamentarians to affect animal welfare improvements and attended the UK Parliamentary Committee on Animal Welfare- where I presented to politicians, and also attended Home Office meetings on animal experiments.

These ranged from complex, multi-level stakeholder and public engagement campaigns like ensuring animal welfare was on the agenda of Earth Summit 2012 to short-term, one-issue campaigns such as ending cruelty in the reindeer meat trade.• Identification and review of strategic media markets and development of a plan to increase global influence, identifying best ways to gain traction in markets where the organisation had limited resources, such as India. Devised and rolled out a media engagement strategy for Spain, resulting in coverage in El Mundo and other key media.•Participation in the development of a strategy for different scientific-based programmes in agriculture and captive bears•Requirement to identify opportunities for story and feature development from international programme work; including tailoring materials to current media agenda and according to audience and market. Achieved significant boost to international coverage on several campaigns. •Up-to-date maintenance of blog, as well as production of constant mix of news stories and social media communications. The position required full editorial and managerial responsibility for country investment reports produced in situ, from interviewees and sponsors to be approached, to the development of each report from conception to production, often entailing immediate changes according to ever-evolving circumstances. The position required communication skills of the highest level, often in languages other than English, including convincing national presidents and ministers to feature and persuading leading CEOs to sponsor reports: repressive regimes often required extreme tact to illicit information.Managerial skills were highly developed by personal establishment of office in each destination, many in challenging environments, setting of budgets and working conditions and employment of local staff. Also had full responsibility for work output, training and development of one or more office staff in each location, with personal responsibility for staff in both work and leisure time. Gained a vast amount of knowledge of many sectors at an international level, especially high-end tourism, traditional and renewable energies and banking and finance. Worked in some 20 nations as varied as Antigua and Russia and Botswana and Cyprus.

Journalist/ Online Content Manager for Environmental Data Interactive Exchange, edie.net, an online news service consulted by the environmental industry, researchers and NGOs. The position involved reporting on national and international political and scientific developments and their impact on the environment, and required the sourcing of original material and the ability to rapidly convert scientific research and data into copy readable by both laymen and experts. Required complete responsibility for news posted to the web and the editorial direction and the look and development of the webpage. During my time at the website, readership doubled to approximately 45,000 weekly subscribers with many thousands more casual readers. Oversaw boost in advertising revenues generated by editorial initiatives.

News coverage of all Brazilian news of interest to foreign readers, from prison riots to FIFA’s World Club Championship, and interviewees ranging from Man United players to Brazilian politicians to victims of crime in shanty-towns. All interviews conducted in Portuguese and great personal skills required when dealing with anyone from police officials to terrified crime victims. There were strict daily deadlines for all editorial and editing, with stories often filed instantaneously from payphones in the street. I also single-handedly operated the bureau at weekends, taking all editorial decisions and had the daily requirement to sub-edit all news from Spanish-speaking Latin America.
