About Gareth Lloyd
I'm a researcher with more than 20 years experience specialising in UX research, psychology and research design. I've carried out user research for mobile and the web, and in games (console/PC/mobile/VR/XR).Author of The Mobile Playtesting Playbook! Which is also a free download from PlaytestCloud if you search for it.https://www.amazon.com/Mobile-Playtesting-Playbook-Better-Testing/dp/B09TZBPVW7I'm primarily a games user researcher: my skill sheet here includes remote moderated and unmoderated, in-lab playtests, competitor analysis, UX analysis, heuristic analysis, observational research, VR and toys-to-life playtesting, concept testing, benchmarking research and survey design, live-service games testing, embedded games UX with studios, mentoring & training, managing consultant researchers.My more general research expertise include research design, survey creation and implementation, experimental methods (including randomised control trials), statistical analysis, user experience analysis, and a range of qualitative methods (including interviews on sensitive topics, focus groups and ethnographic methods). I can also support dissemination and communication, both in carrying out copywriting and helping clients to decide on the best way to present results and findings. I've worked on a number of publications dedicated to communicating complex findings to lay audiences, as well as lots of more conventional academic publications.I hold a PhD in Psychology, where my thesis concentrated on attitudes and behaviours about vaccination uptake, and I have an MPhil in cognitive psychology that focused on human factors determining short-term memory.
