I was responsible for both product management (solution discovery, prioritisation and design) and engineering processes (technical design and quality control) in an R&D team building accelerators to encapsulate industry knowledge on top of Software AG’s Digital Business Platform. Our accelerators were responsible for some of the company’s significant sales; one example being an “IoT Analytics” kit, which is also publicly available.

This role focused on the integration of the newly acquired Apama product into Software AG’s portfolio. I also delivered a range of innovative demonstrators for a number of international events using technologies such as face tracking and Google Glass.

I was responsible for portfolio product management of five enterprise products with technology areas that covered: business process management, streaming analytics, business rules management, transaction analytics and visual analytics. The latter being a new product I co-designed through the Contextual Inquiry process. I lead Apama to the top of the first Forrester Wave into CEP technologies in 2009 and in 2013 I was part of a team of 5 responsible for divesting Apama. This resulted in the successful acquisition of the Apama product, and team, into Software AG.

I coordinated the overall product architecture of the Apama platform. Merged seven separate products into a single platform in order to dramatically improve the usability and user experience. I worked closely with key customers to design new business analyst friendly graphical tooling and extensions to the existing Apama language to cover competitive gaps.

As a founding team member of Apama I was responsible for pre-sales activities focusing on Tier-1 investment banks such as JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank. I also built a number of easy-to-use industry demonstrators, such as a fully functioning algorithmic trading system.

A parallel role, while at Apama, to provide a formal means of communication with academic colleagues during the early days of the startup.

Successfully gained funding for a number of innovative user interaction focussed research projects from both UK and EU funding councils and in collaboration with European-wide institutions. This produced a number of research papers published in both international journals and conferences. Teaching focussed on human computer interaction topics.

Lead researcher at Lancaster University for a multi-million EU funded project (COVEN) focusing on collaborative VR environments.

A sabbatical to work on collaborative user experience technologies and extend a newly patented technique devised by Xerox in their Cambridge lab.
