About Gari Lister
Last summer, in the middle of Covid, my husband and I bought the Chesapeake Inn in Urbanna, Virginia. We spent the winter renovating the Inn and I am excited that we have built a business truly dedicated to giving our guests the very best stay possible. Our logo is "Your Retreat by the Water" because we want our guests to enjoy having their very retreat experience every time they stay with us - regardless of what that means to them. This is my second career reinvention: after 20 years as an antitrust lawyer, I left my corporate clients for a world of kids with issues and general craziness. My husband and I have six adopted girls, all of whom have faced and continue to face significant challenges from the neglect and abuse they suffered before we adopted them. Our journey as a family led me to become an expert in early trauma and attachment, and showed me the amazing progress that children can make with creative therapy, tireless advocacy and unconditional love. I spent more than a decade dedicated to helping some of the world's most amazing children recover -- one child at a time. Now, I am dedicated to helping families and adults recover from their stress by giving them a break from daily life.Along my journey I've learned a number of strategies and approaches which have helped me survive and even grow. My yoga practice has enabled me to cope with daily struggles. I studied life coaching in Martha Beck's Wayfinder Program, and found the tools I learned there to be truly life changing. I am currently a student of the Koelle Institute for Equus Coaching because I have seen the amazing insight that can be gained from working with horses. I round out my life by planning events that both raise funds for needy organizations, and provide entertainment to all those who attend. An experienced event planner, I have managed everything from small fundraisers without a budget to multi-day events.
