Garnet is a marine benthic ecologist with over 22 years'​ consultancy and research experience for the oil and gas, renewable energy (e.g. offshore wind), dredging, aquaculture, ports, power and water industries in Australia, the UK, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Algeria. Garnet is an adjunct lecturer in marine science at Curtin University (WA) and has been invited to contribute to national and international best-practice guidelines.His area of expertise includes:- Baseline/monitoring studies and impact assessment in intertidal, coastal and offshore environments- Benthic ecology and habitat mapping- Sediments and infaunal studies- Survey design and field surveys- Oil and gas subsea infrastructure marine growth studies, both prediction and analysis of growth over time based on ROV video and settlement plate studies- Multivariate statistical analysis- Operational and Scientific Monitoring Programs (OSMPs) and preparedness- Development of innovative approaches, such as NEBA and a novel process for the assessment of shoreline response resource requirements- Preparation of documents for State and Commonwealth regulators, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Regional Environmental Assessments (REAs) and Characterisation (RECs) studies, Environment Plans (EPs), Oil Pollution Emergency Plans (OPEPs), Oil Spill Contingency Plans (OSCPs), Management and Environmental Monitoring Plans (MEMPs), and baseline and monitoring reports.In addition to the preparation of numerous consultancy reports, Garnet has:- Published in scientific literature (e.g. Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the UK)- Co-author for several chapters of the NESP Marine Biodiversity Hub’s Field manuals for sampling in Australian waters (v2)- Developed the Net Environmental Benefit Analysis (NEBA) process that the current Spill Impact Mitigation Assessment (SIMA) is based on- Presented at National-level Conferences, e.g. Australian Marine Science Association (AMSA), Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA), British Ecological Society (BES), and Porcupine Marine Natural History Society- Presented at International Conferences, e.g. the 7th International SedNet Conference, and the Tenth International Meiofauna Conference- Lead commercial research projects, e.g. for the Marine Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund (UK)
