I am a Mechanisms Design Engineer at Blue Origin working on the Orbital Reef program.

During this internship, I collaborated with a colleague to design, assemble, and test a mechanism to deploy and retract a composite boom. I also helped to design a bending moment testing fixture for a shape-memory composite hinge. I learned how to design in Creo, source hardware, and further my skills in FDM 3D printing and iterative design.

As an Operations Manager and Photographer, I directed the daily operations of an adventure photography company. For ten hours per day, I photographed all the rafts and boats that float the Snake River. Concurrently, I would edit these photos in Lightroom and upload them to the company website using Starlink. These tasks required significant time management skills and active problem-solving. Because I worked in a wilderness environment, I had to carry out the operations off the grid. Therefore, I had to engineer a network of computers, Starlink receivers, and various other electronics powered by an array of batteries and solar panels. Naturally, a wilderness environment was challenging, and equipment failure occurred often, and I had to be quick to problem-solve these issues, often in creative ways. As an Operations Manager, I was responsible for training new staff members and mentoring their development all the while being the lead photographer. I was responsible for researching and implementing both software and logistical solutions to improve product quality and operations reliability. I had to be quick to learn and vigilant in such a dynamic environment.
