Hello, my name is Garrett Hicks. I am a third year Kelley student who graduated from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, Indiana and am majoring in finance. Growing up, I always had a determination to intensely work and apply myself to subjects that I had a keen interest in. As mentioned above, I have the rare but wonderful opportunity to continue pursuing my favorite sport at the highest college level. I began running as a sophomore in high school, which is much later than any of my teammates at the time, naturally putting me at a disadvantage with my low experience. However, through three years of dedication, hard work, and resilience, I helped lead my team to its best ever finish in the state championship, along with earning the right to compete for the Hoosiers at the collegiate level.In the classroom, this trait also showed itself through DECA, an extracurricular club designed to prepare students for real-life business situations through a series of tests and role-plays. Once again, I did not begin competing in DECA until I was a junior, due to COVID complications. Others competing my grade had two more years of experience, a difficult margin to overcome. But, my partner and I worked diligently to perfect our strategy and knowledge of the subjects being tested, and ultimately qualified for the highest level of competition in 2022.
