I worked with a cohort of summer interns via a virtual internship program at the Independent Living Research Utilization program at the TIRR Memorial Hermann hospital in Houston, Texas. My responsibilities included learning about the grassroots movement of disability advocacy that was started by leaders of the independent living movement, learning how to be an advocate for someone with a disability, and working on a qualitative data analysis project of survey results collected from individuals in the greater Houston area.

I worked as a summer intern in a nanomedicine lab virtually during the summer of 2020. A main objective of the lab was to develop an in vitro model for leptomeningeal metastasis, an advanced case of pediatric brain cancer in which circulating tumor cells migrate via cerebrospinal fluid from an initial tumor to other regions of the central nervous system. My specific job consisted of conducting image analysis to quantify collagen fibers of the subarachnoid space to determine whether they are drivers of leptomeningeal metastasis and using the data to aid in building a more accurate in vitro model.
