NVT is responsible for managing and operating the central power plant which provides all the electrical power for both the EPA and the NIEHS Research facilities located at the Research Triangle Park site in North Carolina. The central plant also handles the majority of the heating and cooling requirements for both facilities, and our staff also covers the 24 hour monitoring of all the specialized environmental rooms, cryogenic storage units, biological containment equipment, and all critical monitoring systems required to ensure the NIEHS research facility does not lose any of the ongoing experiments and the valuable data that can take years to re-aquire should the facility lose its environmental systems or back up power if the grid goes down. NVT's personell see to it that all back up power generation systems come on line when needed and if any of the critical systems should have a problem it is noted by our staff and the appropriate action is taken to prevent an experiment from going down and/or loss of important data from occuring. I am responsible for the preventative maintanence of many of the environmental systems as well as for making repairs when necessary.
