Summer Educator

West Salem, Wi And Sparta, Wi

During the summers, I have been fortunate enough to teach high school economics while I also teach middle school students digital photography and jewelry making. In addition, I teach middle school students SKYgazing (STEM approach to day skies and night skies) and elementary students artist trading cards. It is busy and tons of fun! Wonderful, supportive, and extremely competent staff members I get to work with during the summer months! Working with 21c creative, collaborative, problem-solving learners! Very fun!

Educator In Lifelong Learning Dept. And Professional Development Dept.

La Crosse, Wisconsin Area

Teaching Flash, PhotoShop, Video Creation, Video Editing, Scanning camera film to digital files, PS Elements, Digital Photography, Photography, Digital scrap booking, Photo Restoration, Illustrator, Creative Suite, and so on gave me the wonderful connections and opportunities to work with those timid about technology, those confident in their job needing to accomplish specific skill sets, and those wanting to dabble and learn more. These courses found art teachers, high school students, production artists, and both traditional and non-traditional students in several courses throughout each class.

Library Media Specialist

La Crosse Wi

I was lucky and fortunate to receive such great training from La Crosse Schools in a LTE situation. The training was outstanding and truly prepared me for my first full year at Sparta in the LMC. I was able to work with students with different reading incentives (hey, those 5th graders rocked and won state at North Woods for WEMTA's Battle of the Books), iPad work, some HPL work, library lessons, and working with a wonderful staff to incorporate what was happening in the classroom with what we were capable of extending into the Library. It was the realization that I could create a learning commons and take things further with MakerSpaces in Sparta...the students prevail with Inquiry Based learning. What a great way of infusing the creativity, project-learning--learning by doing, and mentoring that the Art realm in unison with the Digital Information realm. I am thankful for this year professionally!

Jul 2001 - Jul 2012

Art/Production/Editor

Winona, Mn

Although I was no longer in-house in 1998, I continued to free-lance for SMP in subsequent years. Two textbooks I designed garnered the Printer's Industry of America's prestigious Benny Award. My work consisted of designing for one-, two-, and four-color books, marketing pieces, and brochures. I created newsletters for educators and in-house employees. In addition to design work, I coordinated the production schedule of multiple projects at various phases of differing production schedules. I also worked with free-lance artists and designers. I selected photos, worked as a pre-press coordinator while I also selected student art pieces for some of our textbooks. Also re-purposed much of our printed product to electronic media, to web sneak-peak access, and into digital videos. Fun and fulfilling! While doing volunteer work in school settings, I realized I loved working with students and creating those a-ha moments on the computer whether it was teaching chess on a computer, creating a self-published book, or creating graphics and using scanners + cameras.
