I am currently in the business of consulting; however in my previous life I served as an enlisted US Marine and federal law enforcement professional. I have over 35 years of government service, 25 of those years in leadership. I retired from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as an Assistant Port Director, specifically responsible for trade compliance and Border Security. I have also served as the Port Director at Detroit Metro Airport and the Detroit Land Border crossing with Canada. The largest commercial land border crossings between our countries with 17 active Foreign Trade Zones, Bonded Warehouses and Cargo Examination Stations. I have worked on both the northern and southern borders and have an array of experience in layered security methods, incident management, negotiation, compliance audits and internal controls. I have worked with various manufacturers, transportation companies and their expeditors to address matters related to the supply chain I have also formulated pre-clearance concepts and negotiated international agreements. I have traveled extensively and was a senior advisor in Iraq during reconstruction efforts in 2006 and the CBP Country Manager in England during the Olympics in 2012. I have developed and fostered relationships throughout my career with a diverse workforce and well versed in labor employee relations and coordinating efforts among other Federal, State and local leadership. In 2006, I was presented with the Ambassador Award by CBP and in 2002 I was recognized by the World Customs Organization for achievements related to border security. I am a 2008 graduate of the DHS Fellows Program and certified in leadership instruction and have spoken in many forums as a border security expert.
