Gary has 40 years of experience in international development and Global Health with USAID. He retired from USAID in April 2014 to focus on a new passion--organizational and management coaching. He is a Board Certified Coach and his focus in coaching is helping clients find fulfillment and satisfaction by becoming more effective and using all their skills and potential. Key skill areas: organizational and management coaching, professional development, motivation and capacity building, policy development and execution, strategy development, global health diplomacy, management and supervision, Inter-agency and civilian-military coordination. As a Foreign Service Officer, Gary served as a Health Development Officer in USAID missions in Zaire (Democratic Republic of Congo), Jamaica, the Philippines, Bangladesh and Guatemala. He rose quickly to the highest ranks in the Foreign Service. He also served as Deputy Director of the Office of Population and Reproductive Health in USAID’s Bureau for Global Health.Retiring from the Foreign Service in 1999, he returned to USAID to serve as health team leader for the Asia and Middle East bureaus. In that position he advised bureau leadership on health issues, supported health teams in the missions, and liaised with other U.S. departments and agencies. USAID provides approximately $550 million per year to support health development programs in 25 countries in Asia and the Middle East. He also supported health efforts in post-conflict settings in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Libya, and Yemen, as well as in reconstruction efforts after the Asian tsunami and the Pakistan earthquake. Gary received many awards during his time in USAID and is the only two-time recipient of the Mentorship Award from the Bureau for Global Health. Gary was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho where he was administrator of the Lesotho Flying Doctor Service. He has a master’s degree in health sciences from the Johns Hopkins.
