I'm a budding artist with more than 30 years experience in wetland ecology. Although my initial training was in aquatic and wetland ecosystems, I have broader experience in plant ecology, having conducted research in deserts, upland forests, crop systems, and more. I like to think that both my teaching and research very broadly address many elements of global change, including such topics as land use change, species introductions, and cultural eutrophication.My recent research has investigated nutrient phytoremediation by common emergent wetland plants and carbon uptake and storage by the native (US) bamboo Arundinaria gigantea.I'm also in the early stages of learning pottery and sculpture, where most of my work is inspired by species and ecosystems I've studied or spent time with while fishing or hiking.
