PowerPivot specialist (Microsoft Excel 2010/2013 PowerPivot add-in). Worked with all stakeholders to understand needs and developed reports that successfully challenged senior management perceptions about the traditional industry of MS Excel reporting. Clearly demonstrated how service could be improved and costs lowered.Specific actions included:1) Developed a PowerPivot training course and supporting materials to help colleagues grasp the basics and to use PowerPivot to deliver improved solutions.2) Developed sophisiticated reports and monitoring solutions, focused not just on the provision of data - but communicating a need for action.3) Targeted senior managers - demonstrating potential and need for investment/support.4) Ongoing support and encouragement. Challenging colleagues to use PowerPivot for proper analysis, problem solving and service improvement.

Successfully managed several projects, including the implementation of an Electronic Data and Records Management System (EDRMS or ‘paperless office’) for over 500 social care users at Darlington Borough Council. Performed as both lead project officer and technical lead. Carried out full needs analysis then developed and implemented a simple but effective design and security setup that impressed the product supplier and satisfied the needs of all users. Produced user manuals and delivered initial training sessions personally, demonstrating active involvement in leading the change. Project successfully launched through May/June 2013.Other experiences from this role include: managing smaller projects to develop the CareFirst social care records database to meet operational needs; line management and supervision of data support clerks and project colleagues; building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders in order to ensure overall goals are communicated effectively and understood by all; as well as being part of a team that has hands-on operational responsibilities such as answering helpdesk calls and delivering ICT training.

Successful experience of building MS Access databases for a range of different businesses, for large and small tasks. Greater interest in designing the database to aid organisational communication & fulfil its strategic purpose, than in the writing of code to make it dance. Firm believer in solid foundations built upon a good understanding of where data has come from and what happens to it on its journey. I've long understood that a good understanding of the underlying factors is relevant to a lot more than just designing shonky-but-effective small scale databases!
