Based in the Digital Development team at Aberdeen Standard Investments, working primarily on content management for both an established suite of over 200 websites across over 70 countries, and also for a currently in-development range of new websites: on the migration of content between the dual CMS platforms used, and on delivering new content to both. I maintained and updated the existing heritage Aberdeen Asset Management websites which are hosted and edited using the OpenText CMS. I also added, updated and migrated content to a new and expanding suite of ASI websites, which are built on the Sitecore CMS. I am a multi-discipline designer and web developer with recent specialisation in a variety of web design roles focusing on maximising user experience and navigation and on creating interaction and display functionality. Additionally, I bring many years of diverse experience in a range of contract, freelance and agency design positions, working both as an external contractor assessing and designing for the client’s market and as an internal designer/developer co-ordinating effective cross-media design. My roles have also involved a variety of client and management facing liaison responsibilities. I most recently worked within a team developing browser-based software for academic and research users, and created online content for a unique art trust.I work in varied roles across a project life cycle, from concept and prototype development to functionality and structure to content creation, deployment, testing and marketing. I have also had extensive project management experience and have had interaction with and exposure to diverse back-end technologies, servers and databases. I have a proven record engaging with emerging media, including social media, and have trained and worked with animation, interactivity and video. I have worked in media companies with a focus on eye-catching visuals and on projects for health and finance clients more governed by usability criteria.I am, though, from a creative design background and training, and most of my work over the last eleven years has involved applying my extensive knowledge of design principles and end-user focus to web or screen-based projects. I have used the main design packages such as Photoshop and Illustrator on an almost-daily basis since the 1990s, and I have worked with HTML, CSS and client-side JavaScript since entering employment in 2001. My main role was to oversee front-end functionality and content display, user interface interactions across platforms and devices and general design, component styling and branding. Working predominantly on simulation programs and training and tutorial materials for finance sector clients such as Nationwide, Lloyds and HBOS. The main tasks in this post involve development of client-side versions of data-driven web applications. Working predominantly in Javascript combined with HTML, CSS, and an in-house scripting language, the task was to produce interactive and dynamic pages running off a Java runtime engine to create equivalent functionality to in-production systems. My role also included using the in-house toolkit and Flash to develop training materials. I supplied analysis, reporting and documentation of parts of the development process such as business logic and user journeys. Other work included wireframing for layouts and navigation and building web prototypes both as Photoshop images and as HTML.

I worked with a team of software developers and data managers on projects within the development team at this company which creates web-based software allowing clients to receive and interpret the company’s daily-published data of financial transactions in securities lending. I developed front-end user interface design, created data display components such as branded charts and worked on development projects from initial concepts through to build and testing for supported browsers. I worked on two main projects: one creating a user-editable interface in CSS and XML, then deploying example versions and delivering instructions guiding users in making changes; then, a second project developing initial look-and-feel then subsequently creating web prototypes of a 'dashboard' product which gave users the ability to select a subset of an existing product's dataset and display them in a series of panels. My role included liaison with managers, developers and end-users from the securities lending industry in the UK and in the USA.Design visuals were produced using Photoshop. Development work was undertaken in Visual Studio in .NET 4 with C#. Web work realised as CSS based layouts using additional Javascript, JQuery and XML functionality

My core work was in website development and content creation for TV production company mneTV’s suite of websites, working in .NET, PHP, CSS/HTML and Flash. I also produced print graphics, on-screen still and motion graphics for TV programmes and delivered video content to the web. My main initial role was leading a project developing and then maintaining a .NET-based forum website forming a social hub for minority sports fans and practitioners in Scotland. I created components and content for the site, and managed and trained two part-time assistants, updated articles, monitored the forum and reported analytics information to management and funders. I marketed the site to its target audience using other social media, RSS feeds and widget applications, and trained in the basics of delivering content to mobile phones.I expanded my role over time to redevelop and manage the main company website and its associated content management system, to create stand-alone websites for specific TV programmes and to supply general graphic design for print, such as for newspaper and magazine advertising and vehicle signage. I also created multimedia content for websites and for TV shows.My main work was website building and development, using both Dreamweaver and Visual Studio. The forum website was ASP.NET 2 with VB script, other websites were PHP based, and I used a cross section of XHTML/Web 2.0 tools to build, maintain and deliver content to the websites. I also maintained the servers and operated a media server for video content. I created video players using Flash and edited video in Premiere for web display. I created motion graphics in Apple’s Motion program, animation and interactivity in Flash and used Photoshop and Illustrator for print graphics production and Acrobat for delivery.

At Metro Press, I predominantly managed my own projects producing interface and navigation development work for bank ATM machines, commissioned by global banking corporations. For these projects, I also created continuity and instructional animations, on-screen applications and published printed technical manuals. These projects had strict usability requirements with regard to both the navigational structure and the clarity of on-screen content, and were also governed by significant requirements relating to brand integrity.Other work at Metro included DVD menu and web development work, print graphics and cross-media project management. The company had both a screen-based and print output, and I would engage and manage designers to work on my digital projects, while also contributing graphic work for print and managing outside design work for printing. My main work used Photoshop on a daily basis, with additional animated content produced in Flash and After Effects, web development in PHP and publications built in Quark XPress or InDesign.
