OUR America Initiative seeks to broaden the parameters of the public policy debate of current topics in the national arena. We look to enlighten the population about civil liberties, free enterprise, limited government, and traditional American values. It is our aim to increase the amount of discussion and involvement regarding all-important issues. Founded in 2009, the Our America Initiative (OAI) is a nonpartisan 501(c)4 issues advocacy organization dedicated to focusing attention and public dialogue on important issues facing America. Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson is the Honorary Chairman of OAI and serves as the organization’s principal spokesperson. Governor Johnson appears regularly on national news programs, speaks to a wide range of groups, and disseminates information regarding issues through an extensive social media and Internet network. His followers on various social media platforms total well over 1 million individuals.In addition to the Honorary Chairman, Governor Johnson, OAI will have an “Advisory Board” of nationally-known leaders known for their advocacy of common sense policies and government reform. OAI has a wide range of activities outlined for 2013. Planning is underway for a nation-wide tour of 25-30 college campuses at which Governor Johnson and other national figures will speak to students about issues of particular concern to young Americans. Gov. Johnson is very well-received among college students, and campus events consistently generate extensive and positive news coverage. Through op-eds, white papers and other publications, OAI will, on a nonpartisan basis, strive to promote innovative and bold approaches to issues ranging from government spending and taxes to privacy, drug policy reform and foreign policy. Input for such policy statements and proposals will be drawn from a broad spectrum of policy experts, as well as recognized political leaders.

In 1994 I was elected the Governor of New Mexico with a 10% margin despite having little experience in politics and running in a heavily democratic state. I was reelected, again by a 10% margin, in 1998. While in office, I used a common-sense approach to governing to eliminate New Mexico’s budget deficit, cut the rate of growth in state government in half and privatize half of the state prisons. New Mexico subsequently experienced the longest period without a tax increase in the state’s history.In addition, I vetoed 750 bills (which is about equal to all the combined vetoes of the other 49 Governors in the country at the time) and thousands of line item vetoed bills. As a term limited Governor I could not run for Governor in 2003

Built Big J Enterprise from the ground up and ran it for over 23 years. Starting from the group up, the business started when I put my way through college as a door to door handyman. It soon grew to have over 1,000 employees and be one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico.
