Being influenced at an early age by my grandfather who was an orphan with a 6th grade education, I developed a curiosity about life that pushed me into science-based businesses and strengthened my faith in things and people. He approached life always asking “why” and “how”, and even with limited formal education he built a machine and electronics shop that included specialized fan motors built from scratch for the first rockets that NASA put into space. Later at McKinsey, I had a mentor that always reminded me, “it’s not a job, it’s an adventure!” With a fact-based approach to hard and soft business questions I gained a solid framework for any industry, and an appreciation that work is the greatest “experiential lab” for understanding market linkages, human behavior, and the resulting team dynamics. The ups and downs of a career in oil and gas and renewable energy has built my resiliency, perseverance, creative problem solving and fresh thinking for my boards and teams.Today as a transformational industry executive I leverage operational capability and financial prowess to elevate corporate performance. A valued board and C-suite member, I am recognized for balancing analysis with decisive action, fiscal discipline and market opportunity. Considered an industry visionary I was among the first to apply artificial intelligence to the economics of oil and energy. My skills include translating work streams, technologies, and competitive dynamics into positive impacts to the income, balance sheet and cash flow statements. I am skilled in identifying earning power and market advantage of products and operations, and then matching the segment to corporate risk and growth profiles.
