Acting as a mentor to the board and the CEO, the role is to contribute to the overall success of start up GS1 organisations, help develop good governance practices whist ensuring that the statutes of GS1 are adhered to.

GS1 is governed by a management board composed of key leaders and drivers from multi-nationals, retailers, manufacturers and GS1 Member Organisations.The Internal Compliance Committee of GS1 ensures that every GS1 organisations complies with the statures and regulations of the organisation.

In Europe, the 48 Member Organisations that make up GS1 in Europe cooperate daily with local partners to develop and support the implementation of standards that make businesses grow. The Racal Electronics Group was a highly successful UK organisation with interests in defence systems, communications and (latterly) mobile telephones (Vodafone). I worked for a number of different companies within the Racal Group however my time there was broadly split between operational management in procurement, production & materials control and (as a member of the internal IT company and “poacher turned gamekeeper”) implementing MRPII and other IT systems.

Posts included manager of an Unemployment Benefit Office and, at the time, the youngest benefit fraud officer in the country.
