I designed and developed a number of highly dependable mission critical systems for a variety of companies. These usually run for a number of years without any changes, although clients would often request for new features to be integrated as required. I displayed extensive knowledge in C++, C# .NET Development on a number of platforms including Windows, Windows Server, and Windows Mobile/CE. I demonstrated expertise in all versions of SQL Server and have vast experience in optimising fast and efficient stored procedures, database design, query design, and index design. I showed a thorough understanding of TCP/IP, networking, WiFi, internet protocols, security, encryption, and PC/Server hardware, which proved to be extremely useful skills as a Senior Software Engineer.Utilising internet technologies including TCP/IP and DNS, I was responsible for establishing numerous web sites and setting up routing to suit. I advised clients on firewall settings and even configured them when necessary. I worked with large companies and government IT departments to set up security between software components and servers to run Biz.Com’s systems in secure fully redundant environments. I have also provided network advice to several clients including assisting with Crown Casino’s vast WiFi infrastructure.

I commenced work for Labour Force to resurrect a failed project written in Access. This was done on a part-time basis through Datatask Pty Ltd and later independently as the sole developer. I have re-designed, expanded and updated the system over the years and it is now built on SQL Server and Embarcadero Rad Studio XE4. I have also changed it to use Crystal Reports for reporting which replaced the original Access interface. Later, I ported the original Crystal Reports VCL written in Delphi to full Unicode so it could work on full Unicode versions of C++ Builder (RAD Studio) from version 2010 onward.

I led a small team to engage and redevelop Datatask’s authoring system in a Win32 API application using C++. This project was undertaken in conjunction with Saki Computer Services over a 6-month intensive development period. Responsibilities included:• Design and development of the new system using C++.• Liaising and working with Saki programmers.• Maintaining full compatibility with the legacy system.On completion of the authoring system, the project was extended to include a browser-based student management system built using a combination of Client/Server, C++, HTML, Dynamic HTML, Apache Web Server HTTP, and TCP/IP. These were based on the file formats of Datatask’s existing DOS based student management system so that Datatask’s products could be deployed over the internet or an intranet.I played the major part in a project to develop a single CD based installation of all Datatask’s products. I worked alone on a project to create a comprehensive reporting module for Datatask’s major systems:I was involved in a 2-week project to convert Datatask’s text screen-based student management system to a full graphical interface and environment using C++. I played a major part in a small team designing and developing an authoring and management system for a Win16 environment.I completed a re-design and re-write of the authoring language and runtime environment in C++, adding major functionality, optimisation and polish to a product which was used for a number of years. In another task, I led a large project to convert courseware from an existing authoring system to a new one that was being built in-house. I was responsible for all of the programming support alongside building the systems to create and emulate the new environment so courseware could be built and tested.
