Gary was one of the founding members of Purcell's Liverpool studio, having joined the Norwich studio in 1997. His consummate interest in conserving historic buildings led him to study for a distance-learning MSc in Conservation, winning an award as the top student of his year. In July 2010 Gary relocated to, and helped establish the Purcell's Hong Kong studio, which has grown successfully to secure and complete major projects in the region. Gary was the Associate in charge for the conservation and revitalisation of the Central Police Station and Victoria Prison for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, working along side Herzog & deMeuron and Rocco Design Architects. The project has been open to the public since 2018, renamed as Tai Kwun - Centre for Heritage & Arts and in 2019 it won the highest award of Excellence at the UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards. After being a decade overseas Gary relocated to Purcell's London Studio in September 2020 to work on prestigious heritage projects in the centre of London. Gary has gained wide experience of conserving and repairing existing buildings and of the challenges involved with incorporating new structures into the framework of historic buildings and landscapes. Alongside his passion for the historic environment, lies a strong interest in designing and building anew.Beyond these technical specialisms, he has moved on to run large scale architectural projects and relishes the challenge of managing diverse teams.
