About Gary Tabor

Senator Robert F. Kennedy - "Some people see things as they are and ask why. I see things as they can be and ask, why not?" Trained as a wildlife veterinarian and ecologist, I see myself as a conservation catalyst. For more than 40 years I have been advancing large landscape conservation approaches from establishing protected areas to designing sustainable conservation finance mechanisms, from developing wildlife corridor efforts to advancing conservation science, from strategic wild land philanthropic investments to establishing large-scale climate adaptation efforts, from health to ecology. I work across disciplines to connect people and ideas to protect the ecological integrity of our fragile planet. Today's conservation challenges require collaborative approaches across disciplines of knowledge, institutional and political boundaries, and cultures. I help provide the connective tissue that supports multi-stakeholder participatory conservation.

The Center for Large Landscape Conservation (CLLC) supports the science, policy, and practice of ecological connectivity conservation as the framework for large-scale conservation. CLLC works across North America and the globe to combat the impacts of habitat fragmentation and to enhance nature's resilience to climate change. CLLC works to protect, maintain and, restore wildlife corridors, migration and dispersal areas, landscape linkage zones and connected protected area networks. The Center also supports an international program in road ecology that works to avoid and/or mitigate the impacts of linear infrastructure (roads, rails, pipelines, canals, transmission lines, etc) on wildlife habitat and biodiversity. To work at a large scale, CLLC achieves its goals through the many networks it hosts and supports in reaching more than 2000 landscape and seascape efforts around the world.
