CurrentConsulting for DOE, EPRI and other clients, via Longenecker & Associates (L&A). Highlights include:• Prepared an extensive analysis of cooling water issues at U.S. nuclear plants for DOE-NE. Resulting report, “Cooling Water Issues and Opportunities at U.S. Nuclear Power Plants." Co-authored follow-on EPRI report, “Tradeoffs between Once-Through Cooling and Closed-Cycle Cooling for Nuclear Power Plants,” TR 1025006, June 2012.• Prepared NP2010 COL/DC Lessons Learned Report for DOE-NE, with focus on Lessons Learned and recommendations for future cost-shared programs. (2012)• Independent technical review of design, operational and deployment issues associated with SMRs; co-authored “Small Modular Reactors: A Call for Action,” published by Hoover Institution, July 2015.• Developed the Conceptual, Preliminary and Final Design Reports for the New Filter Building and the New Shaft projects at the Waste Isolation Pilot Project (WIPP) in New Mexico. (2015-17)• Led an L&A team working with APTIM (formerly CBI) under DOE contract to prepare the “Interim Storage Facility Generic Design Report” for commercial spent nuclear fuel, along with its associated Topical Safety Analysis Report for review and approval by NRC. Primary editor of Generic Design Report. (2017)• Served on 3-man L&A team that conducted a review of the Versatile Test Reactor (VTR) Project at INL, in preparation for a CD-0 Independent Review conducted by DOE Headquarters (2018). Developed an aggressive set of proposed “Enterprise Goals” for DOE-NE, based on nuclear industry priorities, including milestones and “tie-ins” to DOE’s PICS:NE project management system. Based on these goals, prepared a strawman “Nuclear Energy RD&D Roadmap” for DOE. (2018) Led a 3 person L&A team that conducted an independent review of the CD-1 document package prepared by the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF) for submittal to NNSA for a major capital project at the Savannah River Site.
