Gary Clough is Head of Programme for the Graduate Diploma in Art and Design at the Royal College of Art, London. Responsible for the academic oversight, management, curriculum delivery and development of the course. RCA's Graduate Diploma supports students from all over the world from a breadth of prior learning backgrounds, develop essential skills and a portfolio and progress to MA level study.Previously Head of International Pathways at the University for the Creative Arts, responsible for implementing and developing the International Pathway courses - International Foundation in Art and Design, Graduate Diploma in Art and Design and Pre-Sessional English Language. Unique to the programmes was an embedded approach to delivering English language for academic purposes within the curriculum.Clough has over thirty years of educational development and delivery experience in both Higher and Further Education. Throughout his career, he has worked at a senior level in both UK and International education systems, including China, India, Korea, Taiwan and Japan. These experiences have driven and informed his commitment to inclusivity and cultural diversity and its essential place within art education.A Co-Founder and Academic Director of Global Arts Education, GAE is a global education consultancy based in the UK and China and specialises in developing innovative partnerships and projects with a range of UK university staff and creative industry partners. The philosophy of GAE is the importance of the student's voice and understanding of the opportunities and possibilities in arts education and the global creative industries. GAE's experience is intrinsically linked to the influential and innovative educational approaches to the UK's creative industries.Clough is a practising artist with an interdisciplinary approach spanning drawing, embroidery, sculpture, animation and site-specific installation. His research focuses on the importance of recording and responding through sketchbooks and journals. The sketchbook is an intrinsic part of his practice; they operate as both virtual and literal studio and cognitive landscape. His work is influenced and enriched by the qualities and visual language of diverse climates, landscapes and cultures. As a graduate of the University for the Creative Arts and the Royal College of Art, he has exhibited across the UK, Europe, US and China.
