Responsibilities covered the Operations, Supply Chain and Service Delivery areas for the £100m Transport Intelligence UK+ division of the business. Interim management of the Project Delivery and Engineering teams, delivering a broad range of technically complex, high value projects to UK transport operators. The role covers numerous locations with the majority of staff in the UK. Strong focus on improved delivery performance, introduction of Lean best practice and continuous improvement, and improving profitability and revenue from major projects. The role was initially transformative, growing an inexperienced operation into a truly professional, high performing environment, where, for the first time, the operation side of the business will considerably exceed its budget.

Board member for the £120m ITS business, with responsibility for the Operations, Purchasing and Training functions, with a total headcount of 150 people. Responsible for development of budgets, departmental strategies, staff development and P&L in each area, as well as a total purchasing spend of approx £50m. Global Leader, Momentum Project : Transfer of production capability from German manufacturing plant to UK. Involved relocation of equipment, processes and expertise for high volume / high variety live product variants, whilst taking advantage of the opportunity to optimise the manufacturing and business systems.Led the Siemens Poole manufacturing facility to be crowned Britain’s best factory in the 2010 Cranfield University Best Factory Awards. Special mention was given to the focus on people development and change management in a highly competitive industry.Led the Operations team to deliver record business results for the 3 years in a row. Achieved by focussing on staff development, process improvement, and employing lean practices to both operational and office environments.

Responsible for a team of 7 Project Managers, delivering a programme portfolio of approx £50m value. Project types ranged from system implementations to on-street infrastructure to server room implementation and relocations. Managed the successful Siemens bid for the Western Extension of the London Congestion Charge scheme. After a complex and detailed BAFO process, stepped out of normal role to act as Project Director for the implementation of the Congestion Charging and Low Emission Zone schemes in London. These ~£50m programmes were highly complex deliveries of secure IT infrastructure, back office and on-street systems, and civil engineering in an extremely difficult environment. These high-profile projects with heightened levels of media interest were both delivered on time and to budget, a rarity for public sector IT deliveries! ISO27001 security standards achieved following independent penetration testing.Turned around an under-performing and demotivated Programme Management department into a successful group. By setting high professional standards, coaching, and reviewing department processes this was achieved within 12 months and the department became recognised as a valued and aspirational area.

Alongside role as Operations Director I also acted as Compliance, Security, Business Continuity and Crisis Manager for Siemens at Divisional and Sector level, ensuring that each business and division within the sector understands and abides by the organisation guidelines and rules on such topics as Asset Classification and Protection and Anti-competition rules. Led the divisional Compliance team to implement new anti-trust and anti-corruption procedures. These were recognised as industry best practice.

Involved across the whole business, from Sales support through to Marketing and contract negotiations.

A subsidiary of British Airways involved in the provision of back office travel booking systems to business travel agents. Project Office Manager tasked to establish a Project Support Office. Managed a team to integrate two businesses following takeover, with tough targets for cost and headcount reduction. Achieved within the target schedule, and all those affected by the project, both those who stayed with the business, and those who unfortunately couldn’t, were dealt with sympathetically and professionally throughout the process.

A large engineering contracting company involved in the design, build and commissioning of refinery and processing plants in the Petrochemical industry. Enrolled on the Project Control Graduate Development Programme (GDP), and progressed to Project Controls Manager.
