I grew up on the Gold Coast, QLD. After high school I spent two years at Cornerstone Community (Bourke then Dysart), then three years as a youth worker / chaplain at Gold Coast Youth For Christ / Youth Concern. I then did a degree in Maths & Computer teaching at QUT, and upon graduating, took a position as Administration Pastor at my local church. In my admin role at the church, I began exploring possibilities for training and resources for church administrators. Not finding much in Australia, I got involved in Christian Management Association (USA), and began wishing there was something similar in Australia. In 2001 I formed an exploratory board, under the banner of Australian Evangelical Alliance, to test the idea of CMA. Believing the idea had merit, the board offered me the position of Founding National Director, so I resigned from my church role and accepted the position, in which I continue to this day.During the early years of CMA, I completed a Master of Business (Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies) at QUT, the final project of which was the creation of 'CMA’s Essential Standards of Ministry Governance’, a practical booklet and tool that has sold 10,000 print copies and many thousands more PDF copies. This was followed up with ‘CMA’s Essential Standards for Christian Workplaces’, which also sold many thousands of copies.In 2015, after years of board deliberation, I led the establishment of the CMA Standards Council (modelled on ECFA in the USA), securing funding for its launch and first staff member, acting as its Founding Chair while the full Standards Panel was assembled, and then serving as a member of the CMA Standards Panel.I continue to lead a small but growing geographically dispersed staff team at CMA and serving the CMA community of over 2000 members with events, training, resources and tools designed to help Christian churches and organisations be more effective in the areas of boards, people and money.
