Discover new catalysis engineering technology for catalyst morphology control, catalyst scale-up process, and knowledge of the manufacturing process. Enhance productivity and quality through the development of testing programs and resolution of manufacturing problems. Propose innovative catalyst for commercial trial in the production unit, create standard operating procedure (SOP), and establish operation process parameters. Spearhead projects pertaining to the development and industrialization of polyolefin catalyst systems, resin production, and additives packages. Key Achievements: • Created an advanced Ziegler-Natta catalyst composition and an accompanying preparation process to manufacture value-added polyolefin products.• Improved the current catalyst process to supplement the high-quality polyolefin and new grade polyolefin materials to meet customer’s requirements by providing technical support to manufacture units. • Created MgCl2-based catalyst support and other supporting material applicable for HDPE or LLDPE process.

Professor Edman Tsang Group, Department of ChemistryKey Achievements:• Created advanced and innovative materials for methanol absorption and a two beds reactor to increase the efficiency of methanol synthesis. • Conducted research on methanol synthesis with in situ sorption by nanocomposite; executed the transformation of CO2 and H2 resulting in low pressure methanol synthesis. • Facilitated a fundamental study on the methanol to olefin (MTO) reaction mechanism. • Designed and synthesized new high surface area materials for small molecule adsorption and storage.

Supervisor: Professor Kylie Vincent, Department of ChemistryThesis title: Carbon monoxide Activation and Poisoning on Metallic and Enzymatic Sites: a New ATR-IR Spectroelectrochemical ApproachKey Achievements: • Developed a novel in situ ATR-IR spectroelectrochemical method to examine surface chemistry and poisoning of supported nanoparticles of precious metals in fuel cell electrocatalysis, under fuel flow conditions.• Facilitated an electrochemical characterization and study for supported metal nanocatalysts and CO/CO2 converting enzyme: carbon monoxide dehydrogenase (CODH). • Probed the surface chemistry and reactions of supported metal nanoparticle catalysts pertinent to fuel cell chemistry through the development of an in situ ATR-IR spectroelectrochemical approach.• Conducted an in situ mechanistic study on formic acid oxidation and methanol oxidation on Pd/C (intermediates in catalysts and catalyst poisoning steps) under fuel flow conditions.
