About Gary Lapointe

I hold a Michigan elementary education teaching certificate, a master's degree in instructional design, and have six years of experience in elementary teaching, as well as two years of substitute teaching in various grade levels in Metro Detroit area districts. My teaching experiences in Wayne and Oakland Counties have included teaching full-time in a second-grade classroom, and substitute teaching with multiple long-term positions in several elementary schools (ECDD through second-grade). I also have experience training students in computer labs and working with students one-on-one as part of a technology initiative. I have always worked with children in a variety of capacities, such as volunteering at shelters in the Metro Detroit and Lansing areas, teaching computer classes at a local computer store, and teaching rocketry and computers while being a cabin counselor at a summer camp.I am experienced and trained in instructional design using both technology and traditional teaching methods. I possess strong interpersonal management and problem-solving skills, with diverse experiences for training administrators, teachers, staff, faculty, college students, and children in both beginning and advanced technology concepts. I have had success in helping college students and teachers write educational grants to integrate technology into the classroom. While my experiences may appear to be vast and varied, they almost always have revolved around providing training and education for children or adults. Helping others get excited about learning new things has always inspired me.

Listed skills include Instructional Design, Program Management, E Learning, Linux, and 24 others.

Elementary School Teacher

Current

Garden City, Michigan, United States

Second-grade classroom teacher instructing all subjects. Constant communication with parents keeps everyone informed on what we are working on and student's current behavior. I also keep students/parents updated with links for practice, reading books to students via video online, and other activities to enhance relationships with our families.I believe that reading is crucial to student growth, and I am striving to foster a love of reading among all students. Knowing that some of my students do not have access to books outside of school, I collect contributions (friends, family, & strangers) to purchase new books for students so that they may build a library of their own at home. This project allows me to send one or two titles home each month and also allows our classroom to have a variety of "raffles" to add even more books to their home libraries; to be clear, "raffle" means ANY excuse to give them more books to have and keep at home!
