Took a Boeing-developed algorithm for measuring atmospheric turbulence and turned it into a process that provides near-real-time analysis of turbulence in both r0 and Cn2. The data has been shown to match theoretical models very closely and has been used to provide corrections to other turbulence measurement systems. I started this work before leaving Boeing, and have continued to work on further upgrades to the system as a contractor.

• Primary software engineer (usually the only one) on development and evolution of commercial 3D Photon-Counting camera project. Camera measures X, Y, and range to centimeter accuracy, based on photon-level detections of emitted laser light. • Performed system design, C++ development and hardware integration of embedded real-time VxWorks system receiving camera imagery at up to 20KHz. Uses a mix of 10 synchronous & asynchronous tasks. • Developed GUIs in Visual Studio C++/MFC and Java to test camera, and control and display imagery • Sole software engineer performing integration of camera, gimbal, GPS, image processing card, laser, and data recorder, to generate 3D visualizations of scanned scene. • Used phased-development to provide incremental improvements for test & checkout. • Designed and developed a Java GUI to control integrated system and display imagery. • Installed and flew system on hot air balloon, Little Bird helicopter, and Huey helicopter. • Performed physical integration and wiring of system into an aircraft wing pod. • Member of 2-person team performing system design, development, and integration of laser-ranging system into Starfire Optical Range (SOR) at Kirtland AFB, to accurately measure range to satellites and generate orbital state-vectors used to improve telescope pointing accuracy.• Sole software/systems engineer responsible for integrating Israeli-built Directional Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) pod into an Apache helicopter. Interfaced with Israeli and Apache personnel, and supported two technical meetings in Tel Aviv. Participated in project planning, scheduling and development.• Selected and integrated hardware for an Acquisition, Tracking, and Pointing (ATP) system operating at 20 kHz, to process information from passive and active sensors, and control the pointing of a Beam Steering Mirror. • Integrated the ATP subsystem into much larger prototype system with multiple subsystems.

• Team lead of application development group in Ops Environment at Buckley AFB, supporting 40 Engineers/Analysts.• Developed applications allowing users to do their jobs more accurately, efficiently, & with fewer personnel. • Created analytical tools, and developed applications to control and monitor processes on remote systems, place overlays of data on system drawings, and interact with SQL databases.• Project planning, scheduling, development, integration, testing, and status reporting.• Interfaced with users, IT, management, and the customer.

Greater Seattle Area

• Lead of a 5-member, cross-functional R&D team, responsible for developing a prototype real-time Multi-Sensor Integration tracking system, for the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). Included project planning, scheduling, financials, and status reporting of ~$1 million annual budget.• Wrote overview and detailed design document covering hardware, laboratory and flight-test interfaces, and lab-to-flight integration path. Designed and coded several major software modules. • Proved system in live tests aboard operational test AWACS. This work lead to the development of an operational capability that was integrated into the AWACS.• Upgraded developmental Multi-Sensor Integration system on Single-Instruction Multiple-Data (SIMD) processor, and integrated it with a scenario generator and GUI.• Implemented a Multi-Target tracking system based on a Joint Probabilistic Data Association Filter.

Greater Denver Area

• Designed & developed post orbit-injection satellite separation sequencing logic for Commercial Titan program.• Developed 3D rocket flight trajectory simulation for mission analysis and verification of new guidance logic.• Developed new control modes and navigational aids for the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU).• Participated in training of NASA astronauts to fly the MMU in a real-time, 6-degree-of-freedom trainer, including capture and retrieval of satellites.• Analyzed and resolved on-orbit MMU anomalies.• Wrote software for Space Shuttle, Aft Flight Deck operations simulator, and solved field-of-view discrepancies in CCTV system used with quarter-scale Space Shuttle Aft Flight Deck mockup.
