About Gauri Krishnan

Gauri Parimoo Krishnan has dedicated over two decades to the development of the heritage sector in Singapore and was the lead curator for the South Asia collection and gallery of the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) and the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) in Singapore – the latter she led to completion as its lead curator and inaugural Centre Director in 2015. She is an art historian and a bharatanatyam dancer, has a PhD in Indian temple Architecture & Sculpture (1995) and taught Indian and western art history and aesthetics at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India and the National University of Singapore. Her passion and knowledge of the interrelationship of the various arts including contemporary arts, and Indian trade textiles has expanded to Diaspora Studies. Her major contribution in recent years to South Asian Diaspora Studies and Museology is the development of the Indian Heritage Centre supported by the Singapore government and the Indian community from inception to fruition between 2007 and 2015. During her 17 years with the ACM, she has curated seminal exhibitions such as Alamkara: 5000 Years of India, Eternal Egypt: Treasures of the British Museum, Ramayana: A Living Tradition, On the Nalanda Trail: Buddhism in India, China and Southeast Asia, Beauty in Asia, Ramayana Retold: A Tale of Love & Adventure among others. She was also the guest curator of the NUS Museum’s South Asia collection at its opening in 2002.
