As a Field Representative at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, I serve as the principal official for the Metlakatla Agency and provide coordination to Bureau activities pertaining to the Tribe. I have four years of experience in this role, and I have successfully managed multiple grants and contracts to support the Tribe's self-governance and economic development initiatives.I also protect the interests of individual Indians and the Community by serving as the trustee exercising the authorities vested in the Secretary of the Interior through public laws and regulatory requirements concerning trust property. I work closely with the Council and the Mayor to provide or obtain appropriate advice on the optimum evolvement of natural resources and other opportunities. Maintains a close working relationship and communicates with the Council on all matters involving the government-to-government relationship which exists between federal, state, local governments, and Indian tribes.Serves as an authority and representative of the Northwest Regional Director in an advisory capacity on Indian matters and laws. Confers with and advises Metlakatla Indian Community Council concerning budget, resolutions, community action programs, development programs, natural resources contracts, leases, and/or similar or related matters to enable the community to attain maximum benefits from trust income and coordination with Federal agencies, state and local govermnent agencies and organizations interested in working with the Tribe.Federal Liaison between the Tribe and various Federal agencies and programs to assist in the development of policies, standards, procedures, and directives relating to self-government to enable the tribe to utilize its inherent powers to achieve increasing responsibilities and authorities. Serves as the principal advocate for the tribe. Promotes analysis and planning activities by Community leaders; counsels with them in the development of programs and champions these Community established priorities.MIC Executive Committee Member, with all the priveleges of a member of the Council, except to vote.
