This position involved all maintenance to farm equipment from mechanical repairs and tractor implements, Dairy machines, pipelines and water pumps. I designed and constructed new pipelines and installed new technologies and machines to the dairy. I was given a dilapidated house on a piece of overgrown farmland and was challenged to convert into a lovable homestead and working farm of my own. I achieved that and more and was able to successfully raise chickens, sheep and cattle. As well as grow vegetables and food for my animals (Maize, radish, turnip and grass).I became instrumental in the farm upgrades. I built vast pipelines that spanned over 8 km’s, carrying water from dams/rivers, over bridges through huge water pumps that moved 120 000L water per hour to the dairy, cattle drinking troughs and crop watering systems.I upgraded the dairy bringing it into the 21st Century, by designing and constructing a cooling system for the dairy milk to inhibit bacteria growth, raising the quality of the milk, which saved and made the farm more money. Attached to that system I installed heat transfer systems that heated up water for free, saving the farm electricity when cleaning /disinfecting the milk tanks.Reasons for leaving: because I became a father for the first time and wanted to live with my family back in the city.Skills learnt: General Farming, Raising animals, Growing, Research; design and construct in order to keep up with modern technology. The ability to delegate and work with staff who speak another language. The company offered motor bike and Jet Ski service, maintenance, repairs and sales. I Tried to turn my passion to a business by opening a shop to help promote the sports and make it affordable. I Managed the jetski, motor bike sales and service department and worked as the head mechanic as well as being in charge of sales. I was the Shop Ambassador and would coach and advise clients on various aspects regarding the operation of jet skis on dams and in the sea. I also represented the shop in competitions by competing.Reasons for leaving: I decided to open my own businessSkills learnt: Strong interpersonal skills, as this was my introduction into management and i learnt good leadership skills.

My brother and I owned this company and it grew fast, starting with signage and expanding to custom motor bike, Jet Ski and motor car graphics. We also expanded to include a sand-blasting division.Reasons for leaving: Industry become flooded with similar businesses that led to low profit margins and company closed as a result.Skills learnt: This was my first job and first business so I made a lot of mistakes but learnt from them. I developed strong interpersonal skills, management, financial and leadership skills.
