Sheffield
Mac operator at Sheffield-based business supplies company EVO Group. This side of the print industry is one in which I believe I can apply many of the skills I developed whilst working in newspaper layout.Using the Step Java client in the Stibo content management system, my role is to design and populate layouts for company marketing literature, using Adobe InDesign, while regularly consulting both publication and editorial content teams.A slight dimension jump for me (I moved from newspaper page layout and design, to brochure, flyer and catalogue layout and design). Not a move I regret. It's fulfilling to realise that the skills and aptitude I applied to one area of publishing are as fruitful and welcome in another. My role, at the HQ of EVO Group, the UK's largest office supplies group, is as action packed as any newsroom I've worked in, but allows me to focus my attention on more of the intricacies of page layout and detail. On a daily basis, demands can flit from a basic request for a regular repro cover overprint, to a complete rethink of a catalogue or brochure cover design. With much more in between.Using Stibo Step content management database software, the crux of my job is populating pages with fresh sales content, assisted and overseen by the firm's merchandising department, which, along with marketing, sets the expectations and briefs to which my studio works. My daily tools are Adobe Indesign and Photoshop, with a stiff measure of Adobe Illustrator and a generous dash of Adobe Acrobat Professional. A mix which seems to work well and doesn't leave me too hung over professionally when deadlines and workload get pacy.
