Coastal Policy - Environment Team Lead
CurrentDuring my time at Coastal Partners I have helped establish a team of environmental specialists to support the delivery of our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) programme, to better protect our coastal communities and internationally important coastal environment. As a team, we undertake Environmental Impact Assessments (including scoping reports), Habitat Regulations Assessments, Water Framework Directive Assessments and other documents to support the licences and consents for our work. We also oversee the full consenting process, including the preparation of Planning and Marine Licence applications. As a team, we support every stage of FCERM development, from writing business cases, to option selection, to outline / detailed design, to site supervision. A key focus is to incorporate environmental improvements into all aspects of our work, and we have been recognised nationally for the environmental innovations we are applying to our works to maximise environmental benefits, such as winning the Flood and Coast Excellence awards in 2022.We are able to undertake habitat surveys, including the co-ordination of surveys to better understand bird usage along our internationally protected coastline, which includes the Harbours of Chichester, Langstone, Portsmouth and Pagham. We are also working closely with the Environment Agency to co-ordinate delivery of the Solent and South Downs Regional Habitat Compensation Programme, with the aim of creating new intertidal / grazing marsh / freshwater habitats to maintain the integrity of the region's Natura 2000 network of environmentally important sites.Another growing area of my work, is collaborating with partners across the Solent, looking for habitat restoration opportunities, as working together we can deliver much greater initiatives than working in isolation. I am proud to sit on the Steering Group of the Chichester Harbour Protection and Recovery of Nature initiative.
