Gavin Larsen received her professional dance training at the School of American Ballet, the Pacific Northwest Ballet School and the New York School of Ballet. In 1992, Ms. Larsen joined Pacific Northwest Ballet under the direction of Kent Stowell and Francia Russell, where she danced featured roles in ballets by Kent Stowell, George Balanchine, Lynne-Taylor Corbett, and Lila York. In 1999 Ms. Larsen joined Alberta Ballet, directed by Mikko Nissinen. Her repertoire expanded to include principal roles in works by George Balanchine, Christopher Wheeldon, Helgi Tomasson, and Mikko Nissinen. In 2002 Ms. Larsen performed as a soloist with the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, and in 2003 she joined Oregon Ballet Theatre as a principal dancer at the invitation of artistic director Christopher Stowell. Her repertoire there included principal roles in ballets by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, James Kudelka, Helgi Tomasson, Christopher Wheeldon, Paul Taylor, Christopher Stowell, Kent Stowell, and Julia Adam. She also joined the faculty of the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre under the direction of Damara Bennett, teaching students at all levels from young children to adults. In 2010, she retired from performing to focus on a career as a teacher, coach and writer. Ms. Larsen has taught extensively in the United States and Japan. She served as children's ballet master for Oregon Ballet Theatre from 2009-2016, staging George Balanchine's The Nutcracker in Portland and South Korea. Her writing has been published in Dance Magazine, Pointe, Dance Spirit, Dance Teacher, Dance/USA's journal In The Green Room, the Threepenny Review and other literary journals. In 2015, Ms. Larsen was honored to receive a residency fellowship at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, NM. She is currently on the faculty of Ballet Conservatory of Asheville in Asheville, NC.Specialties: Dance education, ballet classes for children and adults, private coaching, dance writing.
