In his work for the leading BPMS provider Gavin designs and delivers solutions for clients, primarily in the Financial, Insurance and Government sectors. Each engagement requires working within the technical boundaries provided by the clients Enterprise Architecture into which the solutions are to be delivered; consequently Gavin has developed a practical and pragmatic approach to business process regeneration. As a result of Gavin’s development background and consultancy experience he is familiar with most mainstream enterprise technologies and industry specific communication protocols It is Gavin’s job to understand the business problem and design a solution that fits within the organisations existing enterprise structure as well as making recommendations where necessary for potential areas of improvement.Process improvement delivered through the Pega BPMS on client sites typically requires a mixture of Business Process Management (BPM) Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Business Rules Engine (BRE) skills and understanding. Gavin demonstrates a high level of understanding of all of these solution designs, both in isolation as well as within an existing Enterprise Architecture structure. Gavins also adds his considerable experience solutions required.Additionally Gavin has written a number of articles for Pegasystems that have been published in industry journals on the subject of BPM and SOA, with a particular interest in separating out the major business concerns while providing solutions that meet the businesses requirements as well as the existing ongoing IT architectures, with a view to SaaS, Cloud and virtualisation solutions.Gavin believes strongly that to be competitive in the modern business domain, companies have to take a more holistic view of their processes and move towards more componentised systems solutions a step at a time.

As a result getting a BPM pilot underway Gavin continued its momentum and gained approval for a SOA pilot within the organization. Gavin successfully educated the major stakeholders and completed the POC. The SOA solution Gavin developed was a continuation of a BPM/ESB solution he had already designed solutions for (utilizing BTS for the EAI requirements while a mixture of new Web Services and existing legacy systems enhancements provided the business and application interfaces). SOA development was a new discipline for Fidelity and Gavin actively educated the pilot team and definined the service discovery processes and development artifacts.Process Analysis and Orchestration

Working on modernising and rationalising an aged in-house Java application known as GADA. Gavin designed and implemented a clear internal structure and changed the interfaces from CORBA to SOAP, implementing a number of new Web Service interfaces defined by WSDL using the Apache toolkit.

During this period, Gavin worked on a number of phases of a systems redevelopment program porting the core fund management functionality written on a number of disparate systems to a single consolidated J2EE application. Gavin had responsibility for a number of components in the overall solution as well as a number of staff. The solution was implemented in Websphere using Java and J2EE patterns, including EJB's. Data access was provided via Hibernate and the Spring framework. Gavin developed the ANT build scripts and was responsible for ensuring the JUnit regression tests provided adequate coverage.

During this period, Gavin worked as the companies' sole PEP/ISA application developer. This position is responsible for the maintenance of the PEP/ISA Client/Server application as well as new development. The application is critical to the company's function and consequently requires working to very tight time scales and good communication with the user community. The application data is shared between an AS400 and a Sybase database. Unit trust deals are transacted on a separate AS400 multi-currency dealing system.

At this time Gavin had sole responsibility for the development and implementation of the corporate COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk) solution. The process involved polling for XEROX Metacode files. A custom executable built using IBM's Visual Age C++ embedded index information into the Metacode, once indexed the files were moved to a directory that was polled by the rasterising software "Image Create". Most of this time was used in the creation of an Investor Profile tool; to guide a potential investor through a number of questions in order to help identify their preferred investment strategy. The questions would result in a personalised investment portfolio detailing Fidelity products most likely to fulfill the customer's investment strategy. This product was distributed via selected German Fidelity Brokers.

Gavin worked in a team of two to specifications produced by the senior analyst. Work included the development testing and implementation of an upgraded LIRMA/PSAC settlements system and internal accounts package.

Working in an underwriting department of a French reinsurance company located in the Institute of London Underwriters (ILU) assisting in all aspects of marine insurance and reinsurance. Responsible for the underwriting and endorsing of facultative hull and cargo policies as well as endorsing proportional and non-proportional treaty business.
