Command of a 650 strong wing, comprising of four operational squadrons operating throughout the UK and overseas. Squadrons held a permanent presence in two deployed operational theatres (Iraq and Afghanistan), multiple sites within the middle east and maintained a 24/7 standing commitment to support the UK counter-terrorist task.Delivered significant change programmes within the two year tour utilising lean principles. Developed new sustainable approach to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan whilst reducing costs to the RAF.Annual operational expenditure of £10m.Part of the station management board responsible for over 2,000 personnel and the development and implementation of a change programme to transition from a fast jet station to a station that supported global logistic operations.

Chief of Staff to a newly formed strategy team charged with developing the future vision for the RAF (2020 and beyond) and the Future Air and Space Operational Concept - an articulation of future air doctrine. This was a strategically chosen team of high performing Wing Commanders and above to form and develop the documents in a short timescale. This was achieved.Particular personal emphasis was on a comprehensive engagement strategy addressing the full spectrum of UK and international issues.Led and coordinated the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme that took MPs and Lords and placed them into the RAF for 20 days a year to increase understanding and promote a better informed debate in parliament.

This tour included the 2003 Operation Telic 1 - Iraq.
