When you’ve been involved in engineering as long as I have, alignment between corporate and personal values is important. I approach projects holistically rather than within the framework of a particular discipline, and often find ‘another way’ to solve a problem. I rely on my career backstory and the numerous project & sector experiences as a resource to provide insights. This ties in with ADP’s vision of ‘Creating Great Environments with Great People’ and free-thinking engineering – the focus is on defining what the great environment is for the building, before considering traditional MEP solutions. This, combined with cross-disciplinary technical knowledge, is the birthplace of creativity and innovation.As Director responsible for the Sydney office, I enjoy the opportunity to build a committed and talented group of engineers – our ‘great people’. This involves mentoring them to focus on the relationships with their internal and external teams, and on delivering excellence in engineering. The scale of our office enables both informal and formal review and critique, making sure the more junior engineers have the benefit of senior staff experience.For me, the decision to take an ownership stake in ADP Consulting was based on how it would let me work with clients.
