After presenting my vision for how to move forward testing at 1Spatial, to allow for higher-quality products and more effective product maintenance, I was promoted to the position of Test Manager.My time in this role has been spent modernising the company’s approach to software quality, championing agile development principles and highlighting the role of software testers in an agile environment. This has included:+ Introduction of automated acceptance testing to the company, using a variety of modern tools and techniques+ Creation of a Java-based test framework, using Selenium/WebDriver and Thucydides+ Integration of tests into a Continuous Integration (CI) system (Jenkins)+ Integration of testing and development disciplines, allowing for shared quality ownership and higher-quality deliverables+ Selection of and complex migration to an integrated bug tracking, development & project management tool (JIRA), which improved team working and communication methods within the company + Implementing triage methods to allow defect backlogs to be managed, understood, and used for improved commercial decision-making+ Proposing and justifying decentralised management of virtualised computing resources for the provision of test, development and support environmentsI also successfully completed a series of recruitment campaigns, for both permanent and contract roles, while taking on management responsibility for both test and non-test personnel (both in Cambridge and abroad). A vital part of these campaigns was understanding the importance not only of candidates technical skills, but their personality and ability to fit into a dynamic and evolving team.I received praised for my management of the testers in my team; my technical and behavioural coaching has resulted in a large percentage of my recruits going on to promotion or more senior roles at other companies.
